The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that car dealers and roadside transporters operating illegally in Abuja risk having their vehicles impounded and auctioned by the government.
Wike gave the warning during an inspection tour, where he lamented the continued disregard by some transporters and car dealers for directives issued by the FCT Administration.
He said the government had repeatedly warned violators operating in restricted areas, but many had ignored the directives, forcing the administration to consider tougher measures.
The minister added that any vehicle found flouting the rules would be seized and later auctioned, noting that some Nigerians only take government directives seriously when firm action is taken against defaulters.
The FCT Administration recently introduced two key directives: mandating public transporters to operate from designated bus terminals, and barring car dealers from conducting business in green areas and parks across the territory.
According to the administration, the measures are aimed at curbing flooding in the FCT and improving security within the transportation sector.
The crackdown comes as authorities intensify efforts to sanitize public spaces and enforce compliance with urban planning regulations in the nation’s capital.
