The Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria (AGHAN) has directed its members to stop providing ground handling services to XEJet Airlines over about N300 million in unpaid debts.
The association said the airline had failed to honour agreed payment plans, despite repeated efforts by its members to recover the money.
In a statement, AGHAN President Olaniyi Adigun and Vice President Bashir Ahmed said several indigenous airlines had kept to their payment arrangements, but XEJet had not.
They said services would remain suspended until the debt is cleared. They also warned that the association would take the same action against any airline that fails to honour agreed payment plans.
“We decided to direct our members to withdraw services from XEJet Airlines because it has over time failed to meet up with its payment plans. Our members have made every effort to ensure that the airline complied, but its management has been recalcitrant,” the statement read in part.
The association said the unpaid debts were hurting members at all levels and limiting their ability to expand equipment and improve staff welfare.
“As it stands, the company owes our members about N300 million. Hence, we have instructed our members to withdraw services from the airline and this has been complied with 100 per cent,” it added.
