The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi and representing Ogun West Senatorial District, as the winner of its governorship primary election in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 polls.
The party said Adeola secured 304,055 votes in the primary held across the 20 local government areas of the state on Thursday.
Chairman of the Ogun State Governorship Electoral Committee, Wale Ohu, announced the result after concluding the collation exercise.
He stated that a total of 305,287 accredited delegates participated in the election, while Adeola’s only opponent, Abayomi Samako Hunye, did not record any vote.
Following the announcement, Ohu declared Adeola the duly elected APC governorship candidate, adding that the outcome would be forwarded to the party’s National Working Committee for final ratification.
The result confirms Adeola as the ruling party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
In his acceptance remarks, Adeola expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his longstanding mentorship and political support, noting that his political journey has been shaped significantly under Tinubu’s guidance from his days in the Lagos State House of Assembly to his current position in the Senate.
He also acknowledged the contributions of former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun for their roles in his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
Adeola commended APC leaders, delegates and stakeholders across the state for what he described as their commitment to unity, peace and internal democracy during the primary process.
He pledged to justify the confidence placed in him by the party, saying his ambition was driven by a desire to build on the achievements of the current administration and deliver broader development to Ogun State.
According to him, his administration, if elected in 2027, would focus on infrastructure expansion, economic growth, inclusive governance and improved welfare for residents.
Governor Abiodun, in his reaction, praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries, describing it as a reflection of discipline and maturity within the party.
He said the APC’s ability to resolve most of its contests through consensus demonstrated strong internal cohesion, while commending members who placed party unity above personal ambition.
Party leaders and supporters at the venue also hailed the outcome, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the APC’s chances of retaining power in Ogun State in 2027.
