The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly picked Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.
She is expected to run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat (Obafemi Hamzat), as the ruling party steps up preparations for the next governorship contest in the state.
Sonayon-James, who hails from Badagry, is known within the party for her active involvement in grassroots mobilisation and her advocacy for increased female participation in politics and leadership roles.
According to reports, she currently serves as the Deputy State Chairman of the Lagos APC. She previously held roles such as State Assistant Woman Leader, where she participated in various party activities across the state.
Her public service experience also extends to local government administration. She once served as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, where she was involved in community development programmes.
Outside politics, she has built a career in business and sustainability management, with experience spanning human resources, logistics, and corporate sustainability. She is also the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs and Logistics.
Academically, she holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull.
An official confirmation from the party is expected in the coming days as preparations for the 2027 Lagos governorship election intensify.
