The Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, says the party will run an issue-based campaign in 2027, anchored on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Edu said women across the country were stepping up grassroots mobilisation in communities, households and constituencies to secure a fresh mandate for Tinubu and ensure his policies and development programmes continue.
She said the party would campaign on the administration’s record, including infrastructure projects, economic reforms, educational opportunities and other initiatives meant to improve livelihoods. According to her, the APC would rely on policies, programmes and measurable results rather than empty promises or personality-driven rhetoric.
Edu thanked Tinubu for his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her advocacy for women, families and national development.
She also commended Vice-President Kashim Shettima and his wife, Nana; the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives and their wives; the PCC Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari; the PCC secretary; Progressive Governors Forum Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma; and other APC governors and party leaders for their role in grassroots mobilisation.
Women’s groups, associations and party structures, as well as governors’ wives, women leaders and grassroots organisers, were equally acknowledged for strengthening the party’s engagement with women across states and local government areas.
Edu described women as a formidable force in Nigeria’s electoral process, citing their numerical strength and influence in families, markets, community associations, professional bodies and local political structures.
She said the mobilisation strategy would go beyond rallies and public declarations to include sustained engagement, political education, direct communication with voters, and election-day sensitisation.
The goal, she said, was for Nigerians to understand the administration’s policies, assess their impact on their lives and make informed choices about the country’s future.
NELFUND, reforms in campaign message
Edu singled out the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of the initiatives widening access to higher education for young Nigerians.
She said the student loan scheme was easing financial barriers that could keep eligible students out of tertiary institutions or stop them from completing their studies, while also supporting families with the cost of education.
In her words, NELFUND shows the administration’s recognition that investment in education is essential to human capital development, productivity and long-term prosperity.
She said the scheme, together with infrastructure, economic reforms and other sectoral interventions, would form part of the record the APC presents to voters, adding that the party would explain its policies and achievements in clear, practical terms.
The 2027 election, she said, would give Nigerians the chance to assess the administration’s performance, and the party believed the country was heading towards prosperity despite the challenges that come with reforms.
For the Women Mobilisation Directorate, Edu said the immediate priority was to consolidate existing structures, improve coordination among women’s groups and ensure the party’s message reaches voters in both rural and urban areas.
She stressed that effective mobilisation required more than filling venues with crowds, noting that consistent engagement, credible information and meaningful interaction with citizens were essential.
Edu again commended the First Lady for her role in the women’s campaign and her efforts to promote women’s inclusion, family development and better opportunities for vulnerable groups. She added that women’s participation in governance should go hand in hand with efforts to improve their economic prospects and quality of life.
The directorate, she said, would continue to work with the APC national leadership, state chapters, women leaders and affiliated groups to communicate the administration’s policies and encourage participation in the democratic process.
She expressed confidence that cooperation between party leaders and women’s structures would strengthen nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, and urged APC women to remain united, organised and committed to the party’s objectives.
