African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says he will appoint artificial intelligence as Nigeria’s “Minister of Finance” and drone technology as “Minister of Defence” if elected in 2027.
Sowore unveiled the proposal in a series of posts on his verified X handle on Friday, part of a broader manifesto built around using emerging technology to cut corruption and modernise government.
“Sowore2027 will appoint Artificial Intelligence as ‘Minister of Finance’ and a ‘Drone’ as Minister of Defence,” he wrote. “The AI will eliminate human manipulation, waste, and corruption in public finance by making data-driven, transparent decisions. The Drone will redefine national security with modern surveillance, rapid response, precision, and accountability. The future of governance is technology, not patronage.”
In a follow-up post, he named blockchain and AI as the twin pillars of his anti-corruption strategy. Blockchain, he said, would create a permanent, tamper-proof public ledger of government transactions, contracts, budget allocations and spending. AI would run continuous checks on government activity, flagging suspicious transactions and procurement fraud in real time — catching problems before funds are diverted.
“Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence are the most powerful weapons against public sector corruption,” Sowore said.
He argued the two technologies working together would make corruption harder to commit and easier to catch and punish, while also shrinking the size of government bureaucracy.
“With AI as ‘Minister of Finance,’ we will no longer need bloated bureaucracies, endless convoys, handwritten receipts, paper ledgers that can be altered, or wasteful seminars that increase overhead, slow decision-making, and fuel systemic corruption,” he said. “The government will become leaner, faster, transparent, and accountable. Our goal is not bureaucracy; it is to rapidly improve Nigerians’ quality of life through technology-driven governance.”
Digital governance and tech-driven institutional reform have been recurring themes of Sowore’s #Sowore2027 campaign ahead of next year’s general election.
