The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has banned all signing-out and farewell celebrations in schools across the state, following concerns about increasing student misbehavior.
The directive, issued in a circular on Monday by Commissioner for Education Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, was sent to Governor Dauda Lawal, school authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders.
According to the ministry, farewell events for final-year students have recently become occasions for misconduct that contradict the discipline and values schools are meant to uphold.
All schools are now required to suspend signing-out activities immediately. Authorities are also instructed to engage with parents, guardians, and stakeholders to ensure awareness and compliance.
Students who participate in banned activities may face consequences such as withholding or cancellation of exam results, or even repeating the final year. Teachers who allow such events risk disciplinary measures, including warnings, suspension, or demotion.
Security personnel have been asked to closely monitor schools to enforce the directive, while community and religious leaders are encouraged to guide students in line with proper conduct.
The ministry said the ban is part of the state government’s efforts to reinforce discipline, improve academic focus, and cultivate positive behavior among students in Zamfara schools.
