At least three passengers have been killed after a train on the Warri–Itakpe Train Service derailed on Monday at Agbor in Delta State, the Presidency has confirmed.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said emergency response teams and relevant authorities were deployed to the scene following the incident along the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor.
In an initial statement signed by NRC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kayode Opeifa, the corporation said it was monitoring developments and would issue a detailed update as soon as more information became available.
A subsequent statement from the Presidency confirmed that all passengers on board had been accounted for, and that three fatalities had been recorded. It extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged the public to rely only on verified information and official updates from the NRC as investigations continue.
“Rescue and emergency response operations were immediately activated,” the statement read, adding that relevant authorities are assessing the full circumstances surrounding the incident while support is being provided to affected passengers.
