FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered the demolition of properties built on lands acquired through forged documents, issuing a stern warning to land grabbers operating in Abuja.
Wike made the declaration on Tuesday during the flag-off of the construction of service carriageways along the Southern Parkway, from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II.
The minister said the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had uncovered a pattern of individuals forging land allocation documents to commence development on plots not legally assigned to them — a practice he vowed to stamp out.
“Each time we want to carry out construction, people who have not been genuinely allocated lands, you see them forging documents. It will not work,” Wike said.
He directed the Department of Development Control to collaborate with the Department of Lands to verify ownership records and identify all illegal developments across the territory.
“Those who were not given land and have started building — it’s in vain. We will bring it down,” the minister declared.
Wike also took aim at the Acting Director of Development Control, who was absent from the event, describing the no-show as a sign of poor commitment. He warned that the official risked losing the chance of being confirmed in a substantive capacity if he continued to neglect his duties.
“Tell him if he loves his job, he must be present in whichever activities we are doing,” Wike said, directing the Head of Service to relay the message.
The minister stressed that senior officials of the administration were expected to attend official functions and actively supervise development activities — not merely occupy their positions.
