Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has launched a sharp attack on Nigerian senators, accusing them of empowering President Bola Tinubu to take actions she described as harmful to the country.
Yesufu made the remarks in a post on her verified X account on Friday, responding to comments by Kebbi South Senator Garba Maidoki, who had appealed to Nigerians for support over bandit attacks in his constituency.
She rejected the notion that lawmakers were victims of the country’s security and political crises, insisting they hold both the authority and responsibility to shape decisions at the national level.
The activist argued that members of the National Assembly bear direct accountability for the current direction of governance, as they are the ones approving and endorsing government actions.
“Senators should stop infantilizing themselves! They are not victims. They are enablers of whatever evil Tinubu is carrying out in this country,” she wrote. “They are the ones giving him the power to do all the shenanigans he is currently doing.”
