Very quiet but politically savvy and highly cerebral, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, popularly known as Abena has distinguished himself as a man of the people. A former two-term member of the House of Representatives and former Secretary to the Ondo State Government, he now serves as Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In every role, he has left an indelible mark making him one of the most respected political force on Ondo State.
During his tenure representing Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency at the hallowed Green Chambers, Abegunde was a lawmaker defined by impact. He wholeheartedly represented his people, gave them a voice, attracted numerous development projects and presented life-changing opportunities to his constituents, etching his name in gold. As SSG to the Ondo State Government, he served as the engine room of the late Governor Akeredolu’s administration, demonstrating profound knowledge of governance and administrative finesse.
At the NDDC, Abegunde has discharged his duties with equal diligence, ensuring that the agency provides adequate opportunities for the oil-producing region to the benefit of all. He has remained a pivotal part of the current NDDC administration’s success, bringing to bear his wealth of experience as a time-tested administrator, lawmaker and Systems Engineer for both the State of Maryland and the United States of America Patent and Trademark Office.
As the popular axiom goes, the reward for a job well done is more work. Abegunde has been widely applauded by his people for always representing Ondo State with distinction and keeping the state’s interest at heart. In further appreciation of his contributions and services to the development of Ondo State, the King of Ise-Ekiti, in Ise-Orun LGA Ekiti State, Oba Adetunji Ayodele David Ajayi, Aweloye II, deemed it fitting to honour him for his strides in bringing development to Ondo state and extending a helping hand to all sundry across the country.
On Saturday, 1st August, Hon. Abegunde and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Jumoke Abegunde, were bestowed with traditional chieftaincy titles; as the Bobagunwa and Yeye Bobagunwa of Ise-Ekiti, respectively. The installation ceremony was grand, drawing the who’s who of Ondo and Ekiti State politics, all gathered to show their love and solidarity. The celebrant ensured that those who honoured him were treated to the very best, with an endless flow of meals and drinks.
Many are excited that Hon. Abegunde’s strides in community building have earned him this well-deserved recognition. In his response, he reiterated his commitment to continuing as a good ambassador of Ondo State and to doing everything within his capacity to ensure the state receives quality representation at the NDDC.
