The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Federal Government used the occasion to extend warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world as they prepare to observe the religious celebration.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly compassion, humility and service to humanity.
According to the minister, these virtues remain important to Nigeria at a time when the country needs greater understanding, peaceful coexistence and a stronger sense of collective responsibility.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and stability across the country, stressing that building and sustaining national cohesion is a responsibility shared by all citizens.
The minister encouraged members of the Muslim community and other Nigerians to celebrate the holiday peacefully and responsibly, while showing mutual respect and consideration for one another.
He wished Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the country.
