A Russian drone strike on a passenger minibus in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region has killed five people and injured seven others.
The attack took place in the Nikopol district, near the southern frontline, Ukrainian authorities said.
Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration, said the five victims died at the scene, while the seven injured were taken for medical treatment.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as an “atrocity,” saying there was no military justification for targeting the vehicle. In a post on X, he said Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s logistics and infrastructure had continued without let-up.
Zelenskyy also reported a separate attack on a passenger train in the Mykolaiv region on Wednesday, which damaged a railway station and a diesel locomotive. Nearly 170 passengers were evacuated before the strike. An electric locomotive in the northwestern city of Kovel was also reportedly hit.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, said Tuesday that Russian attacks had damaged or destroyed more than 500 locomotives since the war began, more than half of them in 2026. He described the strikes as a systematic effort to disrupt Ukraine’s transport and logistics network, and called on international partners to help replace the damaged trains.
The attacks come days after Ukrainian officials said former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a group of European diplomats may have been targeted in a drone strike on a train. The train carrying Johnson had reportedly departed earlier than scheduled, while another train travelling the same route was later hit.
Ukrainian authorities say they have increasingly altered train schedules for journeys involving senior officials and foreign delegations to make it harder for Russian forces to track their movements. The route Johnson used is frequently travelled by foreign delegations moving between Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine, and lies less than two miles from the Polish border.
