Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has commended President Bola Tinubu for setting up a new army battalion and an artillery regiment in Kano State, saying the move will boost the fight against banditry and other security threats.
The new formations are the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta. They are expected to strengthen military operations in Kano and neighbouring states.
Kwankwaso, who is a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, described the deployment as a proactive response to emerging security challenges. He said it had restored residents’ confidence in the Federal Government’s resolve to protect lives and property.
In a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, he also praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their roles in improving security in the state.
According to him, the strategic location of the new formations will enhance the ability of security agencies to tackle banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes affecting communities in Kano and surrounding states.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated that he cares deeply about the security of Kano and its people. The establishment of these new military formations is a clear demonstration that the Federal Government is prepared to take decisive action to protect lives and property,” Kwankwaso said.
He argued that, given its population and economic importance, Kano needs a robust security structure that can respond swiftly to emerging threats. He added that the new formations would complement existing military structures and offer residents additional protection.
Kwankwaso said the intervention reflected the administration’s commitment to meeting the state’s security needs, expressing confidence that residents would appreciate the Federal Government’s efforts.
He also urged communities in Tudun Wada, Dambatta and other areas to cooperate with military personnel and provide credible intelligence to security agencies. Community support, he said, would be critical to the success of the new formations and the ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities.
