French President Emmanuel Macron hosted President Bola Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday night, as both nations reaffirmed their commitment to stronger bilateral relations.
Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, describing the meeting as a reflection of the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France.
According to Onanuga, Macron received Tinubu for the dinner “reflecting the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.”
The dinner came as Tinubu continues the second leg of his three-week annual leave in Europe, having spent the first stretch in London before arriving in Paris on Sunday, where he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Ayodele Oke. The Presidency has described the break as a working vacation, with the President expected back in Nigeria at the end of the three weeks.
The meeting adds to a string of high-level contacts between the two leaders, who had previously engaged during Tinubu’s June 2023 visit to Paris for the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.
Nigeria and France have continued deepening cooperation across trade, investment, security, energy, innovation, culture and the creative economy, with the latest dinner further underscoring both countries’ push to strengthen their strategic partnership.
