All nine people aboard a private jet were killed when it crashed into a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday.
The Learjet 60 went down at about 12:50pm local time on November 1, near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that there were no survivors. The aircraft had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for the Bahamas.
Video of the incident showed the jet falling from the sky and exploding in a fireball close to a busy road. The impact left a large crater in the pavement, and thick smoke rose over the area.
The crash site is close to homes and passing vehicles, but authorities have not confirmed whether anyone on the ground was hurt.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed off roads around the scene and advised motorists to stay away.
The FAA said it is sending a team to assist the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash.
The names of the victims had not been released as of Sunday evening.
