President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous Nigeria, promising to strengthen the economy, invest in young people and pursue policies that will promote national development.
The President made the declaration on Monday while reflecting on his spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj (Umrah), during which he was granted the rare opportunity to pray inside the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah.
Tinubu and members of his delegation were granted access to the sacred structure by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Sheikh Dahlulah Muthawal of Masjid al-Haram led the President into the Ka’abah, where he offered prayers of gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The Nigerian leader expressed appreciation to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the special privilege, describing the experience as historic and deeply meaningful.
He also said the gesture reflected the strong relationship, friendship and mutual respect between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu expressed gratitude for the recognition and hospitality extended to him and his delegation, noting that the green, white and green colours surrounding the Ka’abah reminded him of Nigeria’s national identity.
He said, “I want to say a big thank you for the faith and the recognition. I can’t believe the fencing of the Ka’abah is in green-white-green, which reminds us of the Nigerian identity.
“I thank the Crown Prince and all the administrators of the Holy Land for the hospitality and recognition given to me as the leader of the delegation and the country.
“We are all facing challenges and hostility around us. We will overcome them with faith in God Almighty. I’m grateful forever. I thank the King and the royal Crown Prince.”
The President described entering the Holy Ka’abah as an exceptional honour, adding that he would always cherish the spiritual experience.
He further disclosed that he prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue leading the country and serving Nigerians, expressing confidence that Almighty Allah had answered his prayers.
According to him, he had made a similar request during his Umrah pilgrimage before the 2023 presidential election and promised to return to give thanks if his prayer was answered.
Tinubu said his return to the holy land was in fulfilment of that promise.
Reflecting on Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur’an, the President emphasised that all power and authority ultimately belong to Almighty Allah, who has the ability to give and take away leadership positions.
He explained that the lesson serves as a reminder that those entrusted with political authority must exercise it responsibly, remain humble and use their positions for the benefit of the people.
Tinubu said his religious conviction had strengthened his belief that becoming Nigeria’s President was a special blessing that must be justified through dedicated service.
He added that his determination to move the country forward had become stronger, assuring Nigerians that his administration remained focused on achieving prosperity and sustainable development.
“My commitment to Project Nigeria is higher. I am determined to usher in prosperity and fully develop the country, consistent with the wish of Allah and the support of the people.
“It is important to put Allah first, then move on. Follow your conscience. Follow the right path that will lead Nigeria to that greatness,” he said.
On the economy, Tinubu expressed optimism about the direction of the country, insisting that the foundation laid by his administration was solid and that Nigeria was gradually moving away from its previous economic difficulties.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” he stated.
The President also stressed the importance of investing in young Nigerians, warning that the future of the country would depend largely on the opportunities and support provided to the younger generation.
He said leaders must make deliberate efforts to prepare young people for the future, noting that their decisions today would determine how they would be remembered by generations to come.
“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, how do we want to be remembered as leaders 50 years from now? That’s the main thing. So this is a rare privilege to lead the country,” Tinubu added.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the economy, creating opportunities for young people and ensuring that Nigerians have the support needed to achieve their full potential.
He also thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity to lead the country, promising to justify the confidence placed in him through responsible leadership, purposeful governance and sustained efforts towards national development.
