The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over his lifestyle and official spending, insisting that the President lives a modest life despite the privileges that come with his office.
Adedeji made the remarks while responding to growing concerns over the scale of public expenditure tied to the presidency and other government officials.
According to the NRS chairman, Tinubu is not driven by luxury and has embraced a lifestyle that reflects restraint. He claimed that the President sometimes walks to his office and eats only once a day.
Adedeji said the President’s personal habits should be separated from the broader costs of running government, noting that some expenses associated with the presidency are tied to official responsibilities rather than personal consumption.
The NRS boss maintained that Tinubu’s leadership should not be judged solely by the size of government spending, stressing that the President has continued to show personal discipline in his conduct.
His comments come amid an ongoing public debate over government expenditure, including spending on official travel, security, vehicles and other presidential activities.
Adedeji’s remarks are expected to stir further conversation around the distinction between the personal lifestyle of public officials and the cost of sustaining government institutions.
The NRS chairman urged Nigerians to judge the administration based on its policies, reforms and impact on the country, rather than assumptions about the President’s personal lifestyle.
