The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA 2026) delivered a spectacular celebration of African cinema, creativity, and storytelling as top entertainers, filmmakers, producers, and digital creators gathered in Lagos for one of the continent’s biggest entertainment nights.
Held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, the glamorous ceremony featured breathtaking fashion displays, emotional acceptance speeches, memorable performances, and major victories that quickly became trending topics across social media platforms.
The venue was transformed into a luxurious entertainment arena with gold-themed decorations, massive LED screens, celebrity lounges, and elaborate sponsor installations, attracting celebrities, politicians, business executives, influencers, and media personalities from across Africa.
One of the biggest talking points of the night was the red carpet fashion. Several celebrities captivated audiences with stunning outfits that blended African culture with modern international fashion trends.
Linda Ejiofor dazzled in an emerald green couture gown decorated with sparkling crystal details and an elegant flowing train. Funke Akindele also impressed guests with a sophisticated black couture dress embellished with silver stones and layered textures.
Bisola Aiyeola appeared in a futuristic metallic silver outfit with dramatic shoulder designs, while Nancy Isime turned heads in a sculpted gold dress featuring flowing cape details that became one of the most talked-about looks online.
Actor Uzor Arukwe earned praise for his elegant black velvet tuxedo with gold embroidery, while celebrity couple Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Oyebade attracted admiration with their coordinated royal Yoruba attire.

Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for Colours of Fire and delivered one of the night’s most inspiring speeches as he spoke about surviving years of rejection in Nollywood before finally achieving recognition.
Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), with the actor emphasizing the importance of preserving African languages and cultural identity through storytelling.
Other major winners included Valerie Okeke for Best Costume Design for Colours of Fire, Hakeem Onilogbo for Best Makeup in Warlord, Ajamolaya Bunmi for Best Art Direction in Colours of Fire, Kabelo Thathe for Best Cinematography in To Kill A Monkey, and Bucci Franklin for Best Supporting Actor in To Kill A Monkey.
Several films dominated the night, especially Colours of Fire, The Herd, To Kill A Monkey, and The Serpent’s Gift, which received recognition across major acting and technical categories.
Social media platforms were flooded with reactions from fans praising the emotional atmosphere of the event, the improved production quality, the recognition of indigenous storytelling, and the impressive fashion statements displayed on the red carpet.
For the first time since 2013, the AMVCA also introduced new hosts, replacing longtime presenter IK Osakioduwa with comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, a move that generated widespread conversations online.
