Content creator and influencer Amarachi Amusi has explained her decision to freeze her eggs, saying it was a deliberate step to secure her future as a mother amid uncertainty in relationships.
In an interview with Punch, the social media personality said motherhood remains very important to her, and she did not want to leave her chances of becoming a mother to chance as she gets older.
She revealed that several relationships she expected would lead to marriage did not eventually work out, which made her reconsider her life plans and timing for starting a family.
According to her, these experiences made her realise that finding the right life partner could take longer than she once expected, prompting her to take medical steps to preserve her fertility.
Ashmusy said she first became aware of egg freezing after hearing former Big Brother Naija housemate Uriel Oputa speak about doing the procedure. That inspired her to research the process further and consider it as a serious option.
She explained that she carried out extensive research, consulted medical professionals, and studied how the procedure works. She learned that eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and preserved under controlled conditions for future use through assisted reproduction methods when a woman is ready.
She added that emotionally, she initially believed she would be married before age 30, but reaching that age without marriage forced her to reflect on her reality. While she initially felt pressure and anxiety, she eventually accepted her situation and focused on planning for the future.
She also said the decision brought her relief and peace of mind, as it removed the pressure of a “biological clock” and allowed her to focus on relationships without urgency or fear.
According to her, the process gave her confidence and a sense of security about her long-term goal of becoming a mother, regardless of how her love life unfolds.
