Newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has expressed profound gratitude to members of the association following her victory, describing the win as a collective achievement rather than a personal one.
In an acceptance statement issued after the election, Badejo-Okusanya said she was humbled by the confidence reposed in her by NBA members, who she said had bought into her campaign’s vision of “A Bolder Bar That Works For Everyone.”
“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every member who believed that our Association can be stronger, more inclusive, more responsive, and better positioned to serve the interests of all lawyers,” she said.
The President-elect disclosed that she had spent the past few months travelling across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, engaging with lawyers and gathering input that shaped her campaign. She said those conversations would continue to guide her leadership.
Badejo-Okusanya also extended appreciation to all members who participated in the election regardless of who they voted for, stressing that the contest was now over and the association needed to move forward as one body.
“The election is over. We are one Bar, united by a common commitment to the advancement of our profession and the defence of justice and the rule of law,” she said, while also congratulating her fellow contestants for their role in the democratic process.
She thanked her campaign council, volunteers, coordinators, and supporters for their contributions to her victory, as well as her husband and family for their support throughout the campaign.
Outlining her priorities, the President-elect pledged to lead with integrity, courage, humility, fairness, and accountability, promising to serve as president for every member of the association.
“Together, we will build an Association where every lawyer has the opportunity to earn better, live better, and practise better. The work begins now,” she said.
