Spain were crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions on Sunday, defeating Argentina 1–0 at New York New Jersey Stadium to claim football’s biggest prize for the second time in the nation’s history.
Alongside the trophy and gold medals, Spain’s players and coaching staff became the first recipients of a new honour: bespoke championship rings, modelled on a tradition long associated with American sports leagues such as the NFL and NBA.
Only 2,026 of the rings have been made, each individually numbered as a nod to the tournament year. Thirty of them go to Spain’s winning squad and technical staff, while the remaining 1,996 will be sold to fans worldwide as an official licensed product.
The design carries the FIFA World Cup trophy on one side, with the other customised to reflect Spain’s identity as champions. Every ring is numbered, custom-fitted, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Spain’s captain and head coach were handed temporary versions of the ring immediately after the final whistle. Their permanent, customised rings will be presented at a later date once sizing and production are complete.
FIFA described the initiative as bringing “an iconic American sporting tradition to global football,” marking the first time the governing body has introduced championship rings at any of its competitions.
