The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Lagos as the host city for the 2026 CAF Awards, with the prestigious ceremony scheduled to take place on Monday, December 7, 2026.
The event will be held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, formerly known as the National Theatre.
The 2026 ceremony will mark the fourth time Lagos has hosted the CAF Awards. The city previously hosted the continental football awards in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
The ceremony is expected to attract some of the biggest names in African football, including leading players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders. It will honour outstanding performances and contributions to football across the continent.
Nigeria will also host another major CAF event later in November. The CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The hosting of both events further highlights Nigeria’s role in major CAF activities in 2026.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called for greater consistency and a stronger structure within the Nigerian national team.
Troost-Ekong’s comments come amid concerns over the Super Eagles’ recent performances. Nigeria have missed the last two FIFA World Cup tournaments and made a difficult start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The three-time African champions began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau.
Troost-Ekong said the Nigeria Football Federation, coaching staff and players need to work with greater consistency if the national team is to fulfil its potential.
According to the former Watford defender, Nigeria has an abundance of talented players but needs a stable and clearly defined structure to maximise that talent.
He also welcomed the long-term appointment of Eric Chelle as head coach, noting that Chelle’s responsibility for the Olympic team could help him understand and develop younger players coming through the national setup.
Troost-Ekong stressed that individual talent alone would not be enough, arguing that the Super Eagles need a stronger foundation and greater stability to compete successfully at the highest level.
