The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦100 million bail to former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, who is facing corruption charges.
The court gave the ruling on Wednesday during the hearing of the case against Umar.
He had earlier been remanded in Kuje prison after Justice Peter Kekemeke ordered his remand following his arraignment by the Federal Government on four counts of corruption.
The government alleged that Umar abused his office by using his position as CCT chairman to obtain undue advantage for himself.
According to the charges, he allegedly used his wife’s bank account in 2021 to collect ₦5.5 million from a contractor handling the painting of the CCT’s Abuja headquarters.
He was also accused of using the same account to collect ₦6 million on January 25, 2024, from a contractor engaged to digitise the tribunal’s records.
In another count, Umar allegedly directed a contractor to pay ₦2.43 million as tuition for his daughter at Baze University, Abuja.
The offences are said to contravene Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Umar pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
