A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre, following the revocation of his earlier bail.
Sowore will remain in custody until Wednesday, when proceedings are scheduled to resume on a two-count cybercrime charge filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS). The charge stems from a social media post in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
The remand followed a June 16 ruling by trial Justice Mohammed Umar, who not only revoked Sowore’s bail but also issued a warrant of arrest after the defendant failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial. Sowore had been expected to open his defence at that session.
The activist had previously opted to represent himself after his legal team withdrew from the case.
In a separate ruling on Monday, Justice Umar dismissed a motion seeking to disqualify him from presiding over the trial on grounds of alleged bias.
