A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered Nollywood actress Doris Ogala remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion involving Pastor Chris Okafor.
Justice Akintayo Aluko made the order on Wednesday, pending the hearing of her bail application. Ogala, who is also the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Abia State, pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
The charges
Prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokolu told the court that Ogala allegedly posted nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on social media without his consent, knowing the images could cause him embarrassment, emotional distress and damage to his reputation.
She is also accused of circulating videos, recordings and electronic messages she knew to be false, with the aim of bullying, threatening, intimidating or harassing the pastor.
Another count alleges that she threatened to keep publishing menacing and intimate material about Okafor unless he paid her compensation or bought her a house.
The prosecution said the alleged offences took place between September 2024 and March 2026, in breach of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act 2024.
Bail arguments
After the plea, Mokolu asked the court to remand Ogala and adjourn the case so the prosecution could respond to her bail application.
Defence counsel Nathan Atulomah urged the court to grant bail, arguing that it was a matter within the court’s discretion. He promised to produce Ogala whenever required and drew the court’s attention to her status as a governorship candidate.
Atulomah also tried to explain that the allegations stemmed from a failed romantic relationship between Ogala and the pastor. Justice Aluko cut in, saying the explanation was unnecessary at this stage, since the court was only considering bail.
The prosecution opposed her immediate release, noting that it was still within the time allowed to respond to the application.
In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not shown sufficient grounds for her immediate release. He directed that the bail application be heard expeditiously and adjourned the matter until October 30, 2026.
Outburst in court
Proceedings were disrupted after the ruling when Ogala insisted on addressing the court, despite efforts by her lawyer and others to calm her.
“I must talk; this is Nigeria, they are using government power to oppress me. My boyfriend is using government power to oppress me,” she shouted.
The commotion continued until the judge rose for the day.
Instagram allegations
In a later Instagram post, Ogala blamed her remand on religious figures Jerry Eze and Suleman Johnson, as well as Okafor and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, claiming they feared she would expose their secrets.
“Jerry Eze, Suleman Johnson and Chris Okafor are responsible for my remand. Alex Oti is fully behind my remand as well. They are afraid of their secret I know. All of them are responsible, believe me,” she wrote.
The allegations against the named individuals have not been established in court.
Background
The dispute between Ogala and Okafor became public in December 2025, when the actress accused the cleric of ruining her life after a video of his engagement to another woman went viral.
Ogala claimed she had been in a relationship with Okafor since 2017. She was later arrested and detained over allegations that she shared the pastor’s private photographs.
The bail application is set to be heard on October 30.
