The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied freezing all bank accounts belonging to the Osun State government, insisting only one account tied to an ongoing investigation was restricted.
EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, gave the clarification on Thursday during an appearance on Arise News, addressing concerns that had trailed reports of a blanket freeze on the state’s finances.
Uwujaren said the commission placed a temporary restriction on a single account after detecting suspicious activity in the past week, stressing that the action targeted only the specific account under scrutiny and not the state’s entire banking portfolio.
“EFCC placed a temporary restriction on one Osun State government account after observing suspicious activities in the past week. This does not mean all Osun State accounts are frozen — only the targeted one. EFCC has the power to issue such temporary restrictions,” he said.
He added that the commission’s action falls within its statutory powers to intervene where financial irregularities are suspected, and that the restriction remains tied strictly to the account under investigation.
The clarification comes amid the EFCC’s broader probe into the financial dealings of the current Osun State administration.
