Chief Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has threatened legal action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations concerning the ownership of his Abuja residence.
George dismissed Wike’s claim that the property was purchased with funds belonging to Rivers State, insisting that the accusation was false and defamatory.
According to the PDP Board of Trustees member, the Abuja property was acquired legally from a private owner through an agent and had no connection with Rivers State funds.
“My house in Abuja was bought with funds from Rivers? How? The house was built by someone else. I bought it, and it is still there,” George stated.
He challenged Wike to provide evidence to support the allegation, warning that he was prepared to seek redress in court if the claims continued.
George Attacks Wike Over Comments
The elder statesman strongly criticized the FCT minister, accusing him of making disrespectful and reckless remarks against senior political figures.
George claimed Wike’s conduct had become unbecoming of a public office holder and said the minister required medical attention, remarking that he should be “immediately taken to a psychiatric hospital.”
He added that, considering his age and political experience, it was beneath him to engage in a prolonged public war of words with the former Rivers State governor.
Describing Wike as “a child” in comparison to his years in politics, George said he would not be dragged into unnecessary exchanges.
George also alleged that Wike spends millions of naira every week to secure favourable media coverage, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim. The allegation has not been independently verified.
Tinubu Urged to Distance Himself from Personal Attacks
George called on President Bola Tinubu to distance himself from political associates who rely on insults and personal attacks against opponents and elder statesmen.
According to him, the President does not need supporters who defend his administration through abusive rhetoric, warning that such behaviour could tarnish the image of the Presidency and worsen political tensions in the country.
PDP Crisis Still Unresolved
Speaking on the leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party, George maintained that the internal crisis remains unresolved despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishing the name of a presidential candidate submitted by one faction.
He argued that the matter is still before the courts and cautioned against concluding that the publication by INEC had settled the dispute.
The PDP has remained divided into rival factions battling for control of the party and the authority to nominate candidates for the 2027 general election.
George Endorses Jonathan for 2027
George also reaffirmed his support for former President Goodluck Jonathan as his preferred choice for the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket.
According to him, Jonathan possesses the experience, temperament and leadership qualities needed to govern Nigeria again if he eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
He further stated that he would rather abstain from voting than participate in an election where, in his view, the PDP was denied a fair opportunity to contest.
