Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Saturday’s Ekiti State election, recorded a commanding victory in the polling unit of Senate President Opeyemi Bamidele.
Results announced by Polling Officer Ms. Elizabeth Oregbemeh showed Oyebanji pulling 164 votes against just eight for his closest challenger, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Wole Oluyede. Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate Ayodeji Ojo trailed in third place with a single vote.
Earlier in the day, Oyebanji expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise after casting his ballot alongside his wife at Polling Unit 003, Oyebanji’s Compound, RA 06, in Ekiti West Local Government Area. He said reports from across the state indicated the election was proceeding peacefully, with encouraging turnout in many communities.
The governor, however, acknowledged isolated technical hitches in the accreditation process, with some electronic voter verification devices struggling to capture voters’ details in the early hours of polling. He urged residents not to panic, asking them to remain calm and patient as officials worked to resolve the difficulties.
