Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly accused his elder brother, House of Representatives member Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, of substance abuse, in a social media outburst that has exposed a rift within the family.
In posts shared on his X handle on Saturday morning, Bashir alleged that his brother struggles with alcohol and cocaine use, describing him in derogatory terms and questioning his fitness to represent his constituents in the National Assembly.
The posts drew swift reactions online, with one user, @cryptogeekng, urging Bashir to resolve the matter privately rather than air it publicly, suggesting the accusation could apply equally to him. Bashir pushed back, reiterating his claims against his brother in a follow-up response.
The exact cause of the dispute between the brothers remains undisclosed. Hours after the initial posts went up, Bashir took them down, saying he did so on his mother’s instructions.
Neither Mohammed Bello El-Rufai nor other family representatives have publicly responded to the allegations as of press time.
