The celebration began on Monday, August 24, 2026, with a Commendation Service at the Dame Olayinka Obaleye Methodist Church in Jankara, Lagos, at 12 noon, hymns and prayers in thanksgiving for her selfless service. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Joy Haven, her residence in Ilesa, Service of Songs was held at 5pm and 4pm respectively, as various societies gather to sing the old hymns she loved. Thursday evening gathered peopled for the Night of Tributes at Kings Mega Event Centre at 4pm, the most intimate gathering, where children, grandchildren, and friends will share memories of her warmth, wisdom and laughter.
Today’s Friday, August 28, begins with the traditional Woro Dance at Omieran, celebrating her Ijesa heritage. At 1pm, the cortege departs; at 2pm, Lying in State at her residence. The day concludes with a Christian Wake Keep at Kings Mega Event Centre at 4pm. Saturday, August 29, the Final Burial Service takes place at Otapete Methodist Church, Ilesha, at 10am, followed by interment at the private mausoleum and a reception at Kings Mega Event Centre. Sunday, August 30, concludes with a Thanksgiving Service at Otapete Methodist Church at 10am, a fitting finale to a week that began and ends with prayer.
