Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has officially received his Letters of Credence ahead of assuming office as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with concurrent diplomatic responsibility for Lesotho and Eswatini.
According to Fani-Kayode, the appointment followed the approval of the required agrément from the host countries, paving the way for him to begin his diplomatic assignment.
He disclosed that the Letters of Credence were presented to him on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye.
The former minister said he would now proceed to Pretoria, South Africa, where he is expected to formally present his credentials to President Cyril Ramaphosa before commencing his official duties.
Speaking on the development, Fani-Kayode described the appointment as another opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s service on the international stage.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the diplomatic role, saying he was grateful for the confidence reposed in him and requested prayers and support from Nigerians.
Fani-Kayode, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation nearly two decades ago, also expressed optimism about the assignment, attributing the opportunity to divine favour.
He stated that he looks forward to carrying out the responsibilities of the office and strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini.
