The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, Abuja, describing it as a false alarm and urging residents to remain calm.

The incident happened on Thursday morning when panic broke out in the school after some pupils began shouting “kidnappers” and ran out of the premises, sparking confusion among teachers and residents in the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, officers of the Nyanya Division received a distress call around 10:30 a.m. alleging that armed kidnappers had invaded the school.
She said the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed operatives and surveillance teams to the scene in response to the report.
Preliminary investigations, however, showed that the panic was triggered when some pupils suddenly raised a false alarm, which quickly spread and caused widespread panic within the school environment.
Security operatives subsequently cordoned off the school and conducted a comprehensive search of the premises and surrounding areas.
After extensive checks and questioning of individuals within and around the school, the police confirmed that no kidnapping took place, no suspect was found, and no victim was identified.
The command also extended its search to nearby hills, boundary areas, and surrounding communities as part of precautionary measures, while neighbouring schools were visited to ensure public safety.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to disregard the false alarm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
It also encouraged members of the public to promptly report genuine security concerns through the nearest police station or official emergency channels.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reiterated the importance of timely reporting and public cooperation in maintaining security across the territory.
