Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and drug trafficking, following coordinated intelligence-led operations across different parts of the state.
The Command also recovered firearms, ammunition, and suspected illicit substances during the operations.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday.
According to the statement, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, Ogbonna Chinonso (22) and Nnachi Cypril (35), at a drinking spot along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on May 30.
Recovered items from the suspects include a locally fabricated revolver pistol, a cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one live cartridge.
In a separate operation conducted the same day, police operatives raided a suspected drug hideout in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, where they arrested another suspect, Izunna Ani (36). Large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis strains known as “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from the premises.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent and drug-related crimes in the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies, adding that the suspects will be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.
