The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has reportedly appointed former Minister of State for Defence and ex-Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, as the Director-General of his campaign ahead of the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
The appointment was announced as part of efforts to strengthen the emerging campaign structure and enhance political coordination across key constituencies in the build-up to the next electoral cycle in Lagos State.
According to party sources, the decision reflects a strategic move to leverage Obanikoro’s extensive political experience, influence, and long-standing networks within Lagos politics and beyond. He is expected to play a central role in coordinating campaign activities, stakeholder engagement, and grassroots mobilisation across the state.
Obanikoro, a prominent political figure in Lagos politics over the years, has held several key positions, including serving as a senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District and as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana. His involvement in the campaign is seen as a significant boost to the political structure being assembled ahead of the 2027 race.
The campaign framework is expected to focus on consolidating party unity, strengthening outreach efforts, and expanding support across local government areas in Lagos State. Political observers say the early appointment signals a proactive approach to election preparedness within the camp.
The development adds momentum to the early political realignments already shaping the 2027 governorship race in Lagos, as stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
