The Federal Government has voiced strong displeasure over recurring errors in the official title used for President Bola Tinubu by various organisations and media outlets, calling for strict adherence to the correct appellation henceforth.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, raised the alarm on Friday in Abuja through a statement released by his media adviser, Yomi Odunuga.
Akume said the clarification was prompted by an error in how the president was addressed in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akume said.
He urged the public and media organisations to verify official titles before publication, warning that such avoidable mistakes amounted to embarrassing lapses filtering into both print and online platforms.
The SGF further noted that accurate information on official titles could be confirmed through the office’s verified channels on Facebook, Instagram, and X, as well as via email.
