Two police officers were wounded Friday evening after suspected gunmen attacked and set fire to the Isan Police Station in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
A police source, who spoke anonymously with Premium Times as he lacked authorisation to comment publicly, said the attack commenced around 6 pm. One of the injured officers was said to be in a coma and receiving hospital treatment at the time of reporting.
The source disclosed that several vehicles were destroyed during the assault, including a long bus said to have been hired by police personnel from Abuja.
According to the source, operatives of the Police Mobile Force received intelligence about the attack while en route to Isan from Oye and moved in to repel the assailants before they could seize the community. He added that officers stationed at the facility fled when the attackers struck, though security operatives subsequently regained control of the area and restored calm.
An on-the-ground assessment of the station revealed extensive structural damage. Two vehicles within the premises were gutted by fire, while a generator and other equipment were destroyed. Windows, doors, and ceiling fixtures were also damaged. Three additional burnt vehicles were found outside the station.
The incident is the latest in a string of attacks on police facilities in Ekiti State. As of press time, the Ekiti State Police Command had not released an official statement on the matter.
