Veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo has advised women, particularly young ladies, against undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures solely to gain the attention or approval of men.
Dokubo said women should not feel pressured to alter their bodies because of societal expectations or the desire to impress a romantic partner.
Speaking in an interview with Punch, the actress argued that undergoing a painful and expensive cosmetic procedure for a man’s approval could ultimately be a waste of time.
She said women who choose to enhance their bodies for personal reasons and can afford the procedure without harming themselves or others have the right to make that decision.
However, she questioned the motivation behind women who undergo BBL specifically to attract men.
According to her, many men may still prefer natural bodies despite the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures.
Dokubo said, “If it is because of a man that you are doing BBL, you are just wasting your time. Have you heard of any man who decided that because of a woman, he is going to cut any part of his body?”
The veteran actress also reminded women that their bodies naturally change at different stages of life, including puberty, pregnancy, motherhood and menopause.
She encouraged women to embrace the different phases of their lives rather than allowing their physical appearance to determine their self-worth.
“In a woman’s life, there are phases, and every phase comes with its peculiar challenges. You are the one who will decide how to recreate your situation so that no phase of your life brings you down and no phase makes you begin to think that you need anyone’s approval to be a contented human being or a happy woman,” she said.
Dokubo urged women to pursue their ambitions, enjoy their lives and be comfortable with themselves instead of constantly seeking validation through their appearance.
“Live a very happy life, be contented with yourself and pursue your dreams. Every woman is bigger than her body. The body is just a small thing,” she added.
The actress also cautioned against blaming women who have undergone cosmetic procedures for the breakdown of their marriages.
She said decisions to enhance one’s appearance should not automatically be linked to marital problems or used as an explanation for why a marriage ended.
“I don’t think that it is also right to associate what they are doing with the reason for leaving their marriage. I don’t think so,” Dokubo stated.
