Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked friends, associates, and supporters to steer clear of public celebrations or congratulatory advertisements as he marks his 60th birthday.
Shettima turns 60 on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, the Vice President opted for a low-key celebration because he did not want national attention diverted from government affairs to his personal milestone. He also urged well-wishers to skip birthday gatherings and goodwill adverts across newspapers, television, radio, and online platforms.
Rather than spend money on celebrations or congratulatory adverts, Shettima asked Nigerians to instead pray for the country and for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” Shettima said.
He added that his decision was rooted in the belief that public attention should stay fixed on national development rather than personal milestones.
The statement noted that for the Vice President, the birthday is less about celebration and more an occasion for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to national service.
