Former Big Brother Naija winner and Nollywood actress, Mercy Eke, has said she regrets taking part in the reality show, despite acknowledging the benefits it brought her.
Speaking on a recent episode of Toke Moments with Toke Makinwa, Mercy said adjusting back to normal life after the show proved difficult due to the pressures that came with sudden fame.
She said although the opportunities tied to the show were rewarding, constant public scrutiny made the experience overwhelming, particularly when it came to her personal relationships.
Speaking on her struggles to find a life partner since leaving the show, Mercy said, “I regret going to Big Brother even though I love the benefits that come from it. I dey fall in love like mumu, now I said to myself that I want to marry, I want to marry, but it’s not easy.”
She added, “I have dated guys that I have given a lot of money to, not one not two, because they don’t have.”
Mercy revealed she eventually relocated abroad to start afresh, taking up work and adjusting to a new lifestyle outside Nigeria.
She also spoke about the burden of being a public figure, saying many people project their own frustrations and unmet desires onto celebrities.
“A lot of people are living through you… I feel like that’s where the anger comes from because they wish to be you, they now channel the anger that they should have taken to God to you,” she said.
