The Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has warned Christians against buying Christmas clothes and spending money on other personal needs before paying their tithes.
The cleric described the practice as dangerous, claiming that failure to pay tithes could expose believers to problems they might mistakenly attribute to the devil.
Ibiyeomie made the remarks in a video that has gone viral on social media, where he urged Christians to take the payment of tithes seriously, particularly during the festive season.
According to him, believers should prioritise their tithes before making expenses on Christmas clothing and other personal purchases.
“Don’t buy a Christmas cloth when you have not paid tithe. It’s dangerous. It’s very dangerous,” he said.
To support his position, the pastor recounted incidents involving vehicle tyre bursts, which he attributed to the alleged failure of some drivers to pay their tithes.
He claimed that on one occasion, two tyres of a vehicle conveying him burst during a journey. According to him, he suspected that the incident was connected to the driver’s alleged failure to pay tithes.
Ibiyeomie also claimed that two tyres on his Rolls-Royce burst while a driver who allegedly did not pay tithes was behind the wheel.
“I said, go and check his record. Truth was not a tither,” he reportedly said while recounting the incident.
The cleric added that he had experienced similar situations involving other drivers who identified as Christians but, according to him, were not faithful in paying their tithes.
He used the accounts to argue that Christians should not automatically blame the devil whenever they experience difficulties, insisting that believers should also examine their religious commitments.
“Not everything is the devil,” he said.
Ibiyeomie further cautioned Christians against neglecting their tithes during the Christmas period, warning that such decisions could have consequences for their families.
“I’m telling you this December, don’t tamper with your tithe. Otherwise, they may rush your children,” he said.
The pastor also criticised believers who, in his view, failed to calculate their tithes correctly or paid whatever amount they considered convenient.
“Many of you are Christians, but don’t pay the correct tithe. You pay as you like. It’s not pay as you go. Pay correct tithe,” he stated.
He concluded by urging Christians to remain committed to the practice of tithing, maintaining that some problems people attribute to spiritual attacks may, in his view, be connected to their failure to fulfil their religious obligations.
