Nine political parties have collected access codes from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin uploading candidates’ particulars for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that as of close of work on Monday, nine parties had obtained the code.
The parties are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Haruna explained that political parties are required to approach INEC to collect the code themselves, as the commission does not deliver it to party secretariats. Anyone collecting on a party’s behalf must present an authorisation letter from the party’s leadership.
He added that INEC has already issued guidelines for candidate nomination and trained party officials, urging strict compliance with the rules.
The commissioner also warned parties against waiting until the last minute to submit their nomination forms online, noting that INEC had extended the deadline to midnight rather than close of work, so any party that delays would have only itself to blame.
According to the INEC timetable, nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates are to be submitted between June 27 and July 11, while governorship and State Assembly nomination submissions run from July 18 to August 8.
