Former Ogun Central Senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just days after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She officially rejoined the PDP on Monday in Abeokuta during the presentation of the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
Party members received the former lawmaker at the PDP secretariat following her return from a trip to the United States.
Speaking at the event, Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances of winning the Ogun State governorship election in 2027. She threw her weight behind the party’s governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and pledged her support for the campaign.
The former senator hinted at unresolved political grievances but declined to disclose details, saying she would address them during a formal welcome ceremony organized by the party.
“I actually have a lot to say. There are many people that we shall call out, but I won’t say anything now until you organize that official welcome back into the party.
“However, I want to greet our deputy governorship candidate. I am convinced that you will be our next deputy governor. I want to thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become the governor of the state for the first, second and third time.
“But this time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she said.
Her return to the PDP follows her recent exit from the APC, where she had complained of marginalization and unfair treatment by party leaders.
Iyabo Obasanjo also criticized the APC’s governorship primary process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s candidate, alleging that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue during the exercise.
Although she initially accepted the outcome and publicly backed the party, she said subsequent engagements and consultations failed to resolve her concerns, prompting her decision to leave.
Iyabo Obasanjo joined the APC earlier this year after previously leaving the PDP. She served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health between 2003 and 2007 and later represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 before relocating abroad following her unsuccessful re-election bid.
