Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has distanced himself from the controversy surrounding the public display of red underwear by some young women during a rally organised in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu.
The governor stated that he neither had prior knowledge of the incident nor gave approval for such an activity.
The controversy erupted after videos from the rally circulated widely on social media, with claims suggesting the display was part of an empowerment programme allegedly supported by the Kano State government.
Addressing the issue during a special prayer session at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf rejected any association with the event, stressing that it was carried out without his consent.
He further criticised the act, describing it as inappropriate and inconsistent with the cultural and religious values of the state.
According to him, the display contradicts societal norms and the teachings of Islam, adding that his administration does not support such conduct.
