Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has expanded his administration’s automatic employment policy to cover all indigenes of the state who graduate with first-class degrees from any higher institution in Nigeria, regardless of location.
Radda announced the expanded initiative on Sunday at the grand finale and award ceremony of the maiden Katsina State Students’ Week, held at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The governor said the policy, which previously applied only to graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other institutions within Katsina State, would now cover all qualifying students from the current academic year onward.
“Today, I am pleased to expand the offer to all Katsina State students across the country who graduate with first-class degrees from this year onward,” Radda said.
He framed the expansion as a long-term investment in the efficiency of the state civil service, arguing that recruiting a critical mass of first-class graduates would position Katsina to rival both other states and federal institutions within the next decade and a half.
The governor also highlighted other education-focused initiatives under his administration, including the settlement of outstanding scholarship debts, increased bursary allowances, the recruitment of over 10,000 teachers, and the construction and rehabilitation of school infrastructure across the state. He added that these efforts had contributed to a significant reduction in the number of out-of-school children in Katsina.
The Vice-Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Haruna Musa-Muhammad, praised Radda as a student-friendly governor and said the university was ready to partner with the state government on educational development.
The Students’ Week, convened by Muhammad Nagaske, the governor’s Special Assistant on Student Matters, brought together Katsina students from institutions across Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno and other states. Participants competed in sports, academic events and cultural displays, with outstanding performers receiving prizes.
