Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the immediate priority of his administration is to reunite the recently rescued pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area with their families and provide them with the support needed to recover from their traumatic experience.
The governor made the assurance following the successful rescue of the victims, who spent 56 days in captivity after being abducted during an attack in Oyo State.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, Makinde expressed gratitude over the safe return of the pupils and teachers, stressing that their physical and emotional recovery remains the government’s foremost concern.
“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” the governor said.
He explained that the state government would ensure the victims receive the necessary care and assistance to help them overcome the effects of their prolonged ordeal before fully returning to normal life.
Makinde did not disclose specific details of the rehabilitation programme but assured residents that adequate measures would be put in place to aid the recovery of the rescued victims.
The governor also commended the security agencies and all personnel involved in the rescue operation, praising their courage, professionalism and commitment to securing the victims’ freedom.
He further honoured security operatives who lost their lives during the operation, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls and extending condolences to their bereaved families.
