On the sliver screen, He is one of Nigeria’s fresh talented artiste, industrious, intelligent, bold and ebullient these adjectives are not enough to describe this lad. Some say his fathers wealth is enough for him but the young man is hard working, and leaving no stone untouched in the world of music.
He bagged masters degree in the UK and yet still doing good in the world of music. Talented with jaw dropping dexterity Damilola Afolabi with stage name L.A.X, son of business magnate Dr Taiwo Afolabi SIFAX would look like the average rich kid who lack courtesy but beyond everybody’s imagination he is respectful, very jovial with the suave of a gentleman. Currently signed unto Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment label imprint with hits like Caro, Ginger, Morenike among other songs, SOFOWORA OLADAPO caught up with this act and he discussed at length some pressing issues about his career, the high and low points.
Being satisfied with the current state of his career….
When he was asked the question, He chuckled, and answered with much confidence in his voice. he said ‘’I thank God about what have achieved so far, this year has been good,’ He quipped. ‘I dropped tree hit songs back to back, all thanks to God’’. He further added that, ‘‘You cannot be satisfied, even the biggest artiste in the world can’t be satisfied with where they are; so everybody want to be bigger than they were. So I thank God for where I am today, am on a moving train.’’
On How he got into music…
‘’I started music professionally in 2009. I have always been a music person. I started music with 3 of my friends with the stage name fly boys. We just go to the studio everyday after we wrote our W.A.E.C exams. That’s how I found music and we both fell in love.
On marriage affecting his career if he finally settles down…
‘’Marriage is an institution on its own which needs lots of time and attention, being able to manage marriage, music and business together was supposed to be an herculean task ‘I don’t think so. I am a very homely, am not a 9-5 person, so, I think my wife would be very exited because I can balance the everything together. When I was doing my masters in the UK, I balanced schooling and music together. But now in Nigeria I have my own personal business I run and I still combine it with music but basically I can combine marriage, music and business its just proper time planning’’.
On doing things the way he wanted while growing up..
We all know he was born with a sliver spoon and most of the rich kids were spoilt and showered with a lot of gifts this made them do things their own way and growing up for L.A.X was fun ‘‘while growing up, I as guided by a lot of people. I had a big family, if I was treading the wrong path I had a lot of people that would put me back on track, I would say yes in a way but it was a good thing for me’’.
On what makes him distinct from his contemporaries..
‘I think its my voice. When I started this is not the voice I had. His voice had this flavour laced with a Fuji tone, he confessed that ‘I built my voice after series of voice training, during my university days’. ‘I nurtured my voice and I still want it to get better’.

On the current project he is working on..
Am working on my album already, recorded a lot of song, out of the album I can create an EP I have lots of material. When I was in the UK I had a lot of international show, it was difficult to do school and shows I travel all round to Dubai and America but right now am focusing on Africa, but this year, I have an Europe tour lined out.
On how social media has affected the music industry..
‘To me it’s a blessing. It’s has been very beneficial to us. When I check my iTunes sales and Youtube it has been pretty good. iTunes has started doing streaming, so people don’t have to buy your songs before you make cash, they can just stream your song and you make money.’’
On having the opportunity to change anything in the industry…
‘’I would love to change the way royalties are being paid, so even artiste that don’t play shows can actually make money because their music is good. That’s why you see an artiste that started with good music are now doing the pangolo music because they need to go for shows and make money. In countries Like America, Adele doesn’t really need to go for shows to make money. But she makes money off her record.
On Artiste whom he grew up listening to..
I thought he was going to say raggge music or Afrobeat but to my chagrin his grandmum influenced his early love for music ‘’I grew up listening to a lot of Fuji music because of my grandma; Michel Jackson and Usher cause of my mothers sister listen to a lot of urban music.
Take on awards in Nigeria..
‘’Personally I love award. Having something to show for my work is really good. I think bases of award nomination and selection should be non biased’’. ‘Every backdoor to selection should be shut’’.
