The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted more than 1.5 million pills of Tramadol concealed in two trucks that entered Nigeria through the Benin Republic border.
The agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the seizure comes barely a week after NDLEA officers in Lagos intercepted a truck carrying 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg hidden in a false-bottom compartment built with thick iron sheets.
Babafemi said operatives, acting on credible intelligence, tracked and intercepted two more trucks using the same concealment method and travelling the same route from Togo through the Benin Republic into Nigeria.
According to him, the latest haul carries three times the volume of pills recovered in the earlier Lagos seizure, with the consignment reportedly meant for delivery to the North.
He described the interception as a major setback for tramadol cartels supplying bandits and other criminal groups, adding that with their sea port channels already blocked, traffickers are now being cornered along land border routes as well.
Babafemi said the development marks a significant win for the country’s youths, public health, and national security.
