Top Nigerian celebrities drawn from the film, music and entertainment industries converged on Wednesday to pay tribute to late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo at his service of songs held at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos.
Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, had been battling complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He passed away at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, Lagos State.
The event, held between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, formed part of a series of funeral activities announced by the family in an official statement.
“With profound sorrow, yet gratitude to God for a life so beautifully lived and deeply impactful, we officially announce the funeral arrangements of our beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and colleague, Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the family said.
Further funeral rites are scheduled for Arochukwu, Abia State, where the late actor will be laid to rest. A wake keep is set for Wednesday, June 17, at the family residence on 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village. The funeral service and interment will follow on Thursday, June 18, at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, with a reception immediately after at the same venue.
The family urged members of the public and fans of the late actor to keep his wife and the entire family in their prayers.
