The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has disclosed that late veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo, was his preferred choice for the position of Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture.
Yayi made the disclosure on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Ogogo’s family in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The APC candidate described the late actor as an elder brother and praised his significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry, cultural development and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.
According to Yayi, Ogogo’s extensive knowledge of Ogun State’s culture and traditions made him suitable for the proposed role.
He explained that he had already decided to appoint the actor as a cabinet-level Special Adviser if he emerged as governor in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Yayi said: “I told God that if it is destined for me to be governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture.
“My plan was he would be a Special Adviser who would be a cabinet member. I kept it on my chest. I believed God would do it.
“And the reasons are not far-fetched. He is good at what he does as an actor, a traditional person and a cultural person. What else do I want? Man proposes, God disposes.”
Ogogo, aged 66, died on August 23, 2026, following a battle with stage-four cancer.
His death has continued to generate tributes from colleagues, political figures and admirers who have acknowledged his contributions to Nollywood and Yoruba cultural heritage.
